MWC Donation to Mukwonago HS Fitness Center

all Our Mukwonago Wrestling Club made a donation of $7500 for our new fitness center at Mukwonago high school on Aug 14th. A group of our wrestlers presented the donation to our Athletic director Andy Trudell.

This summer the old weight room was torn down and renovated into a fitness center to better serve all students in physical education classes and in athletic activities. The old weight room was a little over 2,000 square feet; this was increased to 5,600 square feet, and converted into a “state of the art” fitness center. The fitness center is now complete and this donation will help to fill it new fitness equipment.

Mukwonago Grizzlys place 4

What a great weekend !!, The Mukwonago Wrestling Club took 18 qualifiers to the Wisconsin state Folkstyle wrestling championships and finished with 4 wrestlers earning a top 6 finishes.

The top finisher was our little dynamo Josie Stachowski who at 50lbs quickly moved to the finals with 2 pins using her text book half the first in a quick 24 seconds and the her semifinal win in 1:40. Unfortunately her finals opponent was a little too experienced for the rookie capturing a 6-0 victory over Stachowski. Next was Aaron Schulist with a  3rd place finish in the 2000-01 88lb bracket, by winning his first 2 matches 9-2 and 6-3 to move the semifinals, unfortunately then lost a tough 3-2 match, but then finished the tournament with 2 more wins for his spot on the podium. Our 2 additional place winners were Alex Jacobi age group 2004-05 at 69lbs and Jake Schulte age group 2000-01 76lbs with 5th place finishes. Jacobi lost his first match 5-2 then worked his way back with 3 straight victories, a lost to put him in the placement match where he won a very exciting overtime match 7-5.  Schulte began with 5-2 victory, but then after losing the quarterfinal 6-2, he fought back with 2 wins, lost 6-2 and finished with a 9-1 placement match victory. A big congratulation to these 4 wrestlers.

In other action in the age group 2004-05 Zachary Eliszewski went 2-2 with 2 wins 4-1 and 4-0 win in his 2nd and 3rd match. In the 2002-03 age group Luke Garvens and Michael Josephson also went 1-2, Garvens scoring a 2-1 victory and Josephson a 5-0 win. Tyler Goebel and Luke Stromberg battled but were not able to get a victory. In the age group 2000-01 at 70lbs Luke Eliszewski went 2-2 with a 17-4 and 9-2 win, leaving him 1 match short of the podium. Lucas Benn at 67lbs went 1-2 with a 3-0 victory in the opening round.   At 76lbs Jake Garvens and 105lb 2001-03 Hailey Porter both wrestled tough but were unable to secure a victory. In the oldest group 1998-99 Jake Matson split wins with a  2-2 record getting a 3-0 win and a pin leaving him 1 match short of a top 6 finish.  Jake Mariani at 80lbs and Andre` Lirette at 145lbs both 1-2 both getting a decision win in 3 matches. At 150lbs Carter Olson and 190lbs Nicholas Beilfuss gave it their all but finished 0-2.

Our 18 Grizzly state representatives made us proud with their effort, battling in every match, we are proud of their and the entire team’s accomplishments in the club this year.  We will celebrate on Sunday April 14th with our Club Banquet/Awards   3pm at the High school – Mark your calendar

Mukwonago Grizzly’s Win 2013 Warhawk Scuffle Duals

Whitewater, WI – Our Mukwonago Wrestling Club headed to Whitewater Sunday morning to compete in the 2013 Warhawk Scuffle Duals. This tournament is conducted like a High school dual meet with weight classes and team points.  Our Grizzlies were represented by 19 club wrestlers filling 15 weight classes.  We started the day competing against the Arrowhead club. The kids clearly brought their A-game from the get go… Braden Schreiber, Luke Garvens, Lucas Benn, Jake Garvens, Aaron Schulist staked the team to a 21-0 advantage.  After a minor bump, Jacob Stachowski, Brandon Wozny, Dennis Mahoney, and Tyler Jacobi continued the roll to 42-12 lead, at that point Arrowhead ran out of wrestlers leaving the final score at Grizzlys – 66 Arrowhead – 12.

In our 2nd dual, we were opposite Franklin, who 2 weeks ago had won the middle school conference tournament.  This dual would turn out to be a battle, Luke Garvens started the team out with an 11-1 major decision, Aaron Schmitz and Josh Garvens battled hard but were unable to garner a victory; Aaron Schulist started the tide rolling with major decision, Jacob Stachowski, Brandon Wozny and Michael West reeled off 3straight wins. The Grizzlys battled through the next 3 matches falling just short, losing by decision as Franklin started creeping closer to make the team score  29 -21. CJ Olson and Jake Matson then put the dual out of reach for Franklin with 2 pins sealing the 41-30 victory.

The championship dual was Lincoln Way, IL vs. Mukwonago. We knew they we very talented in the lower weights but thought we had the advantage with our upper weights.   The Teams split the first 4 matches, with the Grizzlys suffering 2 pins. We again traded the next 2 matches. Team score Lincoln Way – 18 Grizzlys – 10.    3 more matches, 3 more defeats…. Team score Lincoln Way 34 Grizzlys 10.

The Grizzlys sent Tyler Jacobi to the mat at 135, he was able to secure a pin in the 2nd period, next up Andre` Lirette with major decision win, and CJ Olson gained a victory with a fall. Team score Lincoln Way – 34 Grizzlys – 23.  Our team bench was starting to go crazy!!! Suddenly Jake Matson pins his opponent in 29 seconds; score Lincoln Way – 34 Grizzlys – 29.

Nick Beilfuss enters the circle at 190lbs… no score in the 1st; Nick earns an escape in the 2nd, and then continues to push his opponent around the mat to frustrate into a bad shot and a score for a 5-0 victory.  Team score Lincoln Way 34 Grizzlys 32.  The Lincoln Way did not have a 250lb wrestler giving Arik Bohn a forfeit for 6  points, a final score Grizzlys – 38 Lincoln Way – 34 and the Championship…

Not only did the team earn the team championship, they also gained valuable experience for future battles.

Grizzly Coaching Staff

The champion wrestler is neither selected nor born; he is self-formed.”

The champion wrestler is neither selected nor born; he is self-formed.”
Of course, the great wrestler possesses many admirable qualities. However, there are four prime attributes I consider to be a must–hustle, attitude, resolution, and desire (creating the acronym H.A.R.D.).Let’s take a deeper look at each:

HUSTLE-The outstanding wrestler hustles all the time. During practice, his coach often has to tell him to take a break. Furthermore, this high-powered competitor is forever searching for someone better to wrestle. He’s never satisfied with his performance and is constantly striving for perfection.

ATTITUDE-The superior wrestler has a positive attitude. He believes in himself and his capabilities. When others say, “You won’t,” he quietly asserts, “I will”. The champion’s total being radiates confidence.

RESOLUTION-The No. 1 matman illicits a most potent resolution. In truth, it is the pitfalls which make him that much more determined to succeed. He doesn’t know the meaning of “quit.”

DESIRE-The champion wrestler feeds on desire and perceives nothing less than being the best. There may be more skillful grapplers around but his hunger for victory will overcome them all. This winner believes in the adage,”I might be outclassed but never outfought.”

I am sure that everyone will agree it takes H.A.R.D. work to be on top. Oh yes, some have furtively whispered, “The champ seems a bit insane.” However, none will ever forget his name. by Dr. Bill Welker
