What a great weekend !!, The Mukwonago Wrestling Club took 18 qualifiers to the Wisconsin state Folkstyle wrestling championships and finished with 4 wrestlers earning a top 6 finishes.
The top finisher was our little dynamo Josie Stachowski who at 50lbs quickly moved to the finals with 2 pins using her text book half the first in a quick 24 seconds and the her semifinal win in 1:40. Unfortunately her finals opponent was a little too experienced for the rookie capturing a 6-0 victory over Stachowski. Next was Aaron Schulist with a 3rd place finish in the 2000-01 88lb bracket, by winning his first 2 matches 9-2 and 6-3 to move the semifinals, unfortunately then lost a tough 3-2 match, but then finished the tournament with 2 more wins for his spot on the podium. Our 2 additional place winners were Alex Jacobi age group 2004-05 at 69lbs and Jake Schulte age group 2000-01 76lbs with 5th place finishes. Jacobi lost his first match 5-2 then worked his way back with 3 straight victories, a lost to put him in the placement match where he won a very exciting overtime match 7-5. Schulte began with 5-2 victory, but then after losing the quarterfinal 6-2, he fought back with 2 wins, lost 6-2 and finished with a 9-1 placement match victory. A big congratulation to these 4 wrestlers.
In other action in the age group 2004-05 Zachary Eliszewski went 2-2 with 2 wins 4-1 and 4-0 win in his 2nd and 3rd match. In the 2002-03 age group Luke Garvens and Michael Josephson also went 1-2, Garvens scoring a 2-1 victory and Josephson a 5-0 win. Tyler Goebel and Luke Stromberg battled but were not able to get a victory. In the age group 2000-01 at 70lbs Luke Eliszewski went 2-2 with a 17-4 and 9-2 win, leaving him 1 match short of the podium. Lucas Benn at 67lbs went 1-2 with a 3-0 victory in the opening round. At 76lbs Jake Garvens and 105lb 2001-03 Hailey Porter both wrestled tough but were unable to secure a victory. In the oldest group 1998-99 Jake Matson split wins with a 2-2 record getting a 3-0 win and a pin leaving him 1 match short of a top 6 finish. Jake Mariani at 80lbs and Andre` Lirette at 145lbs both 1-2 both getting a decision win in 3 matches. At 150lbs Carter Olson and 190lbs Nicholas Beilfuss gave it their all but finished 0-2.
Our 18 Grizzly state representatives made us proud with their effort, battling in every match, we are proud of their and the entire team’s accomplishments in the club this year. We will celebrate on Sunday April 14th with our Club Banquet/Awards 3pm at the High school – Mark your calendar
